Cruyff

Cruyff

In the beginning, there were no Cruyff shoes

In the late seventies, Johan Cruyff was in the prime of his life. Already having won acclaim in international football, shooting to superstardom from his work as part of the tremendous 1974 Dutch World Cup team, Johan Cruyff could honestly call himself a success. But he wanted more.

He wanted to give something back to his sport with the type of sports gear a player can feel proud to wear. His aims were style, comfort, and the kind of functionality that can take hard wear. As a footballer, Johan knew that Cruyff shoes needed to suit hard-working feet. Any shoe bearing the brand of Cruyff trainers would have to stand up to his mighty reputation.

The creation of Cruyff trainers

In the early stages of the plan, Cruyff shoes ran into a problem. Although there were companies interested in having the famed Cruyff name on board, none could provide the hard-wearing quality and elegance Johan wanted before any shoes could be labelled Johan Cruyff trainers. Cruyff trainers had to be sharp and stylish, but they also had to provide support worthy of professional level playing.

Quality and selection

Johan Cruyff trainers came about through the force and independence of spirit of the man behind Cruyff shoes. Cruyff trainers had to be made from quality leather, with designs that stood up to receiving a real kicking. The idea behind Cruyff shoes took Johan’s own experience on the field to forge technically superior shoes. Cruyff trainers also had to reach their creator’s high standards of style and elegance. This led to the subtle curves of the Cruyff classic trainers you see today, the smooth lines graced by the distinctive reverse ‘C’ that is the mark of Cruyff shoes.

Cruyff classic trainers and beyond

It started with Johan Cruyff trainers, but soon branched out. Johan moved beyond Cruyff trainers to sportswear for all kinds of sports, and specialist designs like Cruyff Vanenburg trainers. Cruyff classic trainers were always central to the operation, however. Johan Cruyff trainers took off beside Johan’s central career in football, and benefitted from his experience. Cruyff classic trainers were of the few designs being created by working professional sports stars. The shoes’ development ran parallel with the innovations Johan Cruyff made as a player, then a manager in international football.

A star is born with Cruyff Vanenburg trainers

Cruyff Vanenburg trainers were inspired by yet another talented Dutch footballer. Gerald Vanenburg was another World Cup-level player with the technical skills that Johan promoted. The Cruyff Vanenburg trainers line combines the usual Cruyff elegance with an even more streamlined look. Combined with the familiar thin sole for flexibility, this made Cruyff Vanenburg trainers handy both on and off the field.

A happy ending with Johan Cruyff trainers

Since Cruyff trainers came to be, other football stars have risen to fame on Cruyff trainers. Footballers like Van’t ‘Il Bello’ Schip, Burgkamp, Patterson and many others worked their best days on the field flashing the ‘C’ curve.

The elegance of the Cruyff trainer style gives these shoes an appeal beyond the sports field. At Tessuti, we’re happy to offer a range of this striking designer line.
