No wonder CP Company is such a great brand – it’s named after two British greats.

Because when founder Massimo Osti – who recently passed away, to the grief of the fashion world - was casting around for a name for his new range of clothing in1975, he turned for inspiration to what he considered the best British tailoring brand, Chester Barrie, and the best British sportswear brand at that time – Fred Perry, named after the tennis star.

Osti’s steady design hand, however, remained firmly on the tiller, steering the artistic and technical direction of CP clothes. With the arrival of Carlo Rivetti as Managing Director in 1989, GFT moved into sportswear and took the name of Sportswear Company.

In 1993, following the selling off policy adopted by GFT, Sportswear Company was taken over entirely by Rivetex, the financial company held by Cristina Rivetti and her brother Carlo, with Carlo Rivetti as president.

When Osti first began designing, he had a great interest in military uniforms and work suits, although in recent years the CP clothes emphasis has fallen on the evolution of urban city wear such as CP Company jackets and CP shirts.

The great designer was always insistent that CP Company design should always focus on the integration of technical properties, either added to the fabric or the finished garment.
