Revolutionising the Size Guide with the Fit Finder
Online fashion and finding the right fit: The problem with traditional size guides
Research shows that the rate of clothing returns is considerably higher online than in-store.
More than one in three (37%) of online returns made by Tessuti customers in 2017 were as a result of incorrect fit.
Tessuti decided to investigate, questioning over 1,400 online shoppers to find out their shopping habits when it comes to selecting sizes online.
15% of those surveyed find they often pick the wrong size when buying clothes online. This can cause frustration for shoppers who find themselves needing to make an exchange or request a refund.
More than two thirds (67%) said they use a size guide before selecting a clothing size to purchase, yet of those, 19% often pick a size that does not fit them.
A huge 91% said when buying clothes online, sizes vary depending on the brand they buy.
These findings highlight the difficulty shoppers face when selecting a size to purchase. Online shoppers are unable to try on an item to make sure it fits or suits them before they make a purchase, and can struggle to select a size based on non-standardised sizing.
Revolutionising the size guide: The Fit Finder
Traditional size guides require customers to be able to accurately measure themselves before making a purchase. They tend not to account for variations in sizes used by different brands, with many using international sizing.
Shoppers are left confused, several of who avoid buying online altogether and instead opt to head to the high street to try on an item before they buy.
Tessuti has taken feedback from customers on board, introducing a sophisticated tool to online product listings.
The Fit Finder is an interactive size guide that has been designed to simplify sizing selection. It asks shoppers things they are likely to know about themselves, rather than for specific body part measurements.
For example, when buying ladies jeans, the Fit Finder will ask for things like: height and weight, belly shape, hip shape, age, and fit preference. It also considers the size a user would normally pick in other popular retailers, to give the most accurate result possible.
How it works
An informed sizing recommendation is provided based on previous returns made by people who are a very similar shape to the details a user provides. It tells a user how likely they are to be happy with the size recommended using this data so they can make an informed purchase.
